Pediodectes haldemanii occurs in the Great Plains of North America from South Dakota to northern Mexico (Map); in prairies, semi-deserts, and other grassy areas. Fairly large (32-50 mm), with a stocky body. Usually green; sometimes brownish. The pronotum is edged with dark brown or black posteriorly. Omnivorous; feeds on plants, carrion, and small invertebrates.
